It's a species of the mint family and  contains an essential oil called Nepetalactone that drives cats crazy. Catnip toys can be great fun for both you and your cat, bringing both of you several minutes of entertainment.

INHALATION VS. INGESTION

Nepetalactone works by stimulating a cat's pleasure receptors in the brain resulting in several minutes of happy, playful activity when inhaled. The euphoria of catnip is just temporary though, with each feline frenzy lasting approximately 10-20 minutes after which they become uninterested in the toys until the effect wears off and he or she becomes susceptible again.
However, Catnip works more like a sedative when ingested. Keep in your mind it may cause stomach discomfort or vomiting if they ingest too much, so only administer in small amounts if giving by mouth.

Some breeds, particularly those with large, floppy or hairy ears like Cocker Spaniels, Miniature Poodles, or Old English Sheepdogs, are more prone to ear infections, but ear infections may occur in any breed.
 
Just like in humans, ear infections are painful to dogs. They will commonly shake their heads or scratch their ears trying to relieve the pain and odd feelings. Ears can become reddened, swollen and have a discharge. Normally the discharge will have a strong smell.
 
The most common type of ear infection is fungal; an overgrowth of yeast. Puppies and kittens tend to have ear mites and these are not normally seen in adult dogs. Ear canals can also be narrowed and have a smaller opening due to dirt or debris which harbors bacteria. Chronic ear infections can lead to very narrow canals and even closed canals.
 
It is very important to keep your dogs ears clean and treat any ear infections early. Our Ear Care (Otaxium Drops) are a great way to keep ears clean and in good health as well as treat early yeast and bacterial infections of the ear. Just place the drops in the ear, massage the outer ear and wipe off any excess oil.
